Ayato Kamina is a character from an anime series called RahXephon. This is a fictional journal, and the character and franchise belongs to BONES and ADV Films. I do this for non-profit and for fun. No suing, okay?

At the beginning of the series, Ayato Kamina is a student and artist living with his mother in Tokyo. Most of his artwork shown in the series consists of drawings or paintings of a girl on a cliff looking towards the sea. He has birthmark-like symbols on his belly resembling runes, which are revealed to be a sign of his being a potential instrumentalist for the RahXephon.

After being taken from Tokyo by Haruka and the RahXephon, Ayato moves in with Rikudo Shougo, Haruka's uncle on Nirai Kanai. At first, this arrangement does not sit well with Ayato, as Haruka and her younger sister Megumi live in Rikudo's annex, but they slowly adapt to each others' presences. As a stranger from Tokyo Jupiter, Ayato struggles to find his place and acceptance in the outside world. Although he pilots the RahXephon in defending the island of Nirai Kanai, he questions his abilities and self-worth. He also struggles with trying to piece together and understand his relationship with Haruka, handling the feisty Megumi, and interacting with the other TERRA personnel, who regard him with a broad spectrum of reactions, from acceptance and friendship to cool scientific interest to distrust and even contempt.

Reika Mishima first appears in the series as the subject of one of Ayato's paintings. She then appears, in person, during the attack on Tokyo in episode 1. She leads Ayato to the RahXephon, and is shown to have some sort of connection to it via her singing.

Gradually further on through the episodes, it is hinted that Reika is not a normal human being. She does not have a reflection unless she needs to, she calls Ayato from an unassigned phone number, and she appears to alter Ayato's classmates' memories to make them remember her.

Reika is actually Ixtli, the soul of the RahXephon, and that her appearance is a manifestation of Ayato's desires. This enables him to connect with and fully use the RahXephon; in artistic terms, she is his muse. Her form is chosen to closely mimic that of a young Haruka Mishima (later Shitow) with whom Ayato had fallen in love.

Personality: Ayato is at heart a good person. If there’s someone in need of help, and if there’s no one else around, Ayato will go get help, or help out himself if he could. His ability to make friends is almost like a second nature. He doesn’t like being rubbed the wrong way though. He prefers to keep some personal issues to himself. As for the blue bloods, Ayato doesn’t know much about them, besides the fact that those agent guys probably would’ve shot him if he wasn’t rescued and disobeyed their requests.

Ayato is very artistic. He sketches and paints scenery and people. Give him a computer graphics program like Photoshop, and who knows? He might create some cool things with that.

He can also get very emotional at times when frustrated or angry. There’s also a dorky, curious side of Ayato. He doesn’t hesitate to want to learn some new things. And he’s also a little timid around girls and women. He tries his best to act more or less like a gentleman around them.

Without the RahXephon, Ayato is pretty much a normal teenaged guy. He’s vulnerable and it’s easier to, say, capture him...

All in all, he has much to be told about the Mulians (the blue blooded people), and to be told the truth that those in Tokyo Jupiter (the Mulians created that separate little world, plus a 12 year time lag apart from the rest of the actual world around them) who tried to hide from him.

The RahXephon, the mecha that Ayato pilots, is about as tall as a city office building, and is known to the Mulians as an artificial god, designed by Lord Bahbem, who is the puppet master behind almost everything that goes on during what happens in Tokyo Jupiter, and in parts of the world outside of it. Seriously, this robot is very, very big.

Its powers are light and beam based, and evolve the more Ayato pilots it. For him, it’s easy enough to operate.

The RahXephon can fly too, and almost nothing is a match for it, apart from the weapons of war the Mulians use known as Dolems.

Only Ayato (apart from those who are close to his bloodline) can enter inside of the RahXephon, for it was designed only for him.

When any damage is inflicted onto the RahXephon, minor or major, all it needs is a large body of water to heal all wounds. Also, a large body of water is the most proper hiding place for it.
